Amsterdam Mini Guide

Amsterdam Mini Guide

Welcome to my next city guide! I take pride in discovering the best things to do in every city I visit. From amazing restaurants and hidden local vintage shops to unique spots you might not find on the typical "Things to Do" lists. This full guide includes all of my favorite things I've done while visiting Amsterdam!

I visited Amsterdam on a solo Europe trip and fell in love! From all of the fun activities, food, fashion, and nature - it was a dream.

Before getting into the recommendations, I wanted to share a quick tip on how to easily save the spots you want to try on a Google list, so they’re accessible on the map while you’re there. I always use Google Maps for public transportation while traveling and have never had any issues, so I highly recommend this method:

  1. Download Google Maps and log in to your Google account.
  2. Click on the name of each location from the guide, which should open in Google Maps.
  3. Select “Save” on the Google listing, then create a new list with the city’s name.
  4. Add each location to your city list. It's also fun to add a cute little emoji for the list so they pop up different than other pins!

When you’re in the city, you’ll be able to open your custom map and view all the saved locations in relation to where you are and how close they are to each other.

Disclaimer:

I don't include some of the more traditional things to do, because I'm assuming those are already on your list. This adds in fun unique elements that you can hit along the way. I also don't want this list to come across as me being an expert on all the fun things to do, just my recommendations after doing research and visiting some spots. I really love making these guides and take pride in them!

Restaurants

SAINT-JEAN Bakery

The first thing I do when getting to Europe is heading to a local bakery and grabbing a matcha and pastry to try and fight of jet lag. Saint-Jean is a dream!

Dumplings

This is located right on the edge of a park, such a gorgeous location and amazing food! I really enjoyed sitting by the water, reading my book, and having some dumplings. I have also heard great things about the crepes!

The Pizza Vagabond

Comparable to pizza in Italy! You can tell they care about the ingredients which is so important.

Shops

A dream day to me in a new city includes exploring all of the local shops! Here's some of my favorites that you can't find in America.

Carmen

They have the coolest pieces, I got a blue long sleeve there a few years ago and it's remained a staple in my closet. Make sure to check their hours on their Instagram!

Moise

They carry a few of my favorite high end brands and also have the most beautiful jewelry.

Wendela van Dijk

Another store with a great selection of higher end brands! Great for when you want to splurge on a super cool piece.

Vintage

I love vintage shopping in new cities! It's so fun and I always have the best time just listening to good music and browsing vintage/thrift stores that I haven't been to before.

Also, there's usually other vintage stores in the area when you find one–so use these as a guide and explore the others in the area!

Kilostore

A huge variety of vintage pieces, and be sure to shop this whole street. There's also a vintage market just in front of these shops so check it out!

Archive 1906

Vintage designer!

Penny Lane Vintage Boutique

So many fun and colorful vintage pieces!

Things To Do

For me, I was completely content just sitting by the river and hanging out–Amsterdam is so gorgeous! These aren't the typical touristy activities, because I would guess those are already on your list. Here's some more untraditional ideas!

Moco Museum

I love this museum because it's small and cozy, but so amazing!

Skate Park

A different activity, but helpful nonetheless hahah! Give your boyfriend a break from following you around vintage shops and let him enjoy this cool skatepark. Or if you're a girl who likes skating I'm sure you'd love it!

Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

This museum is a must see!
