Tokyo Mini Guide

Welcome to my next (and possibly my favorite) city guide! I take pride in discovering the best things to do in every city I visit—from amazing restaurants and hidden local vintage shops to unique spots you won’t find on the typical "Things to Do" lists. It also saves you the hassle of having to watch hundreds of tiktoks, take screenshots, etc. These mini guides are always free on my website, but if you’re looking for the full guide with 40+ recommendations per city, I’d love for you to join as a subscriber. Hope you enjoy it!
Japan is my absolute favorite place to visit! I’ve been twice, and I already can't wait to go back. Japanese hospitality is truly next level. Whether it’s a shopkeeper carefully wrapping your purchase or a stranger helping you find your way, the warmth and politeness you’ll experience make visiting Japan so special.
Understanding Japanese Culture & Etiquette:
Japan has a rich culture that deeply values respect, order, and harmony. While visitors are always welcomed with kindness, it’s important to be mindful of cultural norms to ensure you’re being a respectful tourist!
One thing to keep in mind is that Japan tends to be a more reserved culture, especially in public spaces. Unlike in some Western countries where being loud or animated in public is normal, in Japan, quietness is seen as a way to show respect to those around you. This is especially true on trains, in restaurants, and in temples or shrines. That said, this doesn’t mean you can’t have fun! There are plenty of places—like izakayas (Japanese pubs), karaoke bars, and themed cafes, where lively conversation and laughter are totally welcome. It’s just about being mindful of your surroundings!
Before getting into the recommendations, I wanted to share a quick tip on how to easily save the spots you want to try in a Google list, so they’re accessible on the map while you’re there. I always use Google Maps for public transportation while traveling and have never had any issues, so I highly recommend this method:
- Download Google Maps and log in to your Google account.
- Click on the name of each location from the guide, which should open in Google Maps.
- Select “Save” on the Google listing, then create a new list with the city’s name.
- Add each location to your city list.
When you’re in the city, you’ll be able to open your custom map and view all the saved locations in relation to where you are and how close they are to each other.
Tip: If you're able, leave lots of room in your suitcase for souvenirs! I had a whole empty carry on that I brought back!
Disclaimer:
I don't include some of the more traditional things to do, because I'm assuming those are already on your list. This adds in fun unique elements that you can hit along the way.

Restaurants
Micasadeco & Cafe
It isn't Tokyo without fluffy ricotta pancakes. I paired these with a matcha latte and had the most fun unique breakfast!
Tsukiji Outer Market

This is a MUST! This outdoor market has an amazing variety of local foods to try. From fresh fish, mochi, omelets, you'll want to spend at least an hour and a half hear hopping from vendor to vendor.
Udon Shin

The carbonara udon is worth the wait IMO
Shopping
Kiddy Land
You can't leave japan without at least 10 little trinkets, it's a rule. Even though this Kiddy Land is a bit crowded - it's 5 floors of the cutest trinkets ever! Highly recommend.
GETTRY 原宿

This is a sneaker store that had a great selection. I recommend walking around in this area and browsing all of the shops here!
The Onitsuka Omotesando

Onitsuka is a japanese sneaker brand and has some exclusive sneakers and is so much cheaper than in the states.

Vintage
The things I would do to be vintage shopping in Japan right now. It's seriously the BEST! They have so many pieces in amazing condition and everything is so affordable.
Furugiya JAM Shimokitazawaten

kindal ginza second hand store

A selection of high end items.
Mindbenders&Classics

The best selection of Euro Vintage. Pricy but justified!
Things To Do
There are obviously many traditional and historical things to do in Tokyo (which I HIGHLY recommend), but I wanted to add some different ideas of things you might not already consider to do!
Purikura - Noa

The photobooths in japan are so funny and cute, stop by and make some memories haha!
21_21 Design Sight

Such a gorgeou modern art museum
Tokyo DisneySea / Disneyland

Disney in Tokyo is so much fun. The food is so good and cheap, and the animatronics are amazing!
